Video to MP3 Converter

Turn any video into an audio file: a lecture you want to listen to on the go, a song from your own recording, or the sound from a voice note video. Choose the video, pick MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG, and tap Convert. You can convert the whole thing or just one part. Everything happens inside your browser with ffmpeg, the open-source engine behind many video apps. Your file is not uploaded to our server.

How to convert a video to MP3

  1. Tap Choose a video and pick a file from your phone or computer. MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, FLV, WMV, MPEG and most other formats work.
  2. Pick the format and quality. MP3 at 192 kbps suits most music; 128 kbps is fine for speech.
  3. Tap Convert, listen to the preview, then tap Download.

Convert only part of the video

Tick Only convert part of it, play the video to the moment you want, and tap Use current time for the start and the end. You can also type times like 1:05. Handy for saving one song from a long recording, or a single answer from a lecture.

MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG?

  • MP3 plays on everything: phones, car stereos, old MP3 players. Pick this if you are not sure.
  • M4A (AAC) sounds a little better than MP3 at the same size and is the native format on iPhone and in iTunes.
  • WAV is uncompressed. Use it for editing in Audacity, GarageBand or a video editor. Files are about 10 MB per minute.
  • OGG is an open format used by some games, Android and Linux apps.

Which quality should I choose?

  • 128 kbps: lectures, podcasts and voice recordings. About 1 MB per minute.
  • 192 kbps: most music. About 1.4 MB per minute.
  • 320 kbps: the best MP3 quality, for music you care about. About 2.4 MB per minute.

Converting cannot make the sound better than the original. If the video has low-quality audio, a higher bitrate only makes the file bigger.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert MP4 to MP3 on my phone?

Open this page in Chrome or Safari, tap Choose a video and pick the clip from your gallery. The conversion runs on your phone and the MP3 is saved to your Downloads folder.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. The first time you convert, the browser downloads the free ffmpeg engine (about 30 MB), and after that it works even faster.

How long does it take?

Usually a few seconds for a short clip. Extracting audio is much faster than re-encoding video.

Why does it say the file could not be converted?

The video may have no sound track, or it uses an unusual format. Try another file, or convert the video to MP4 first.

Can I convert a YouTube video to MP3?

This tool works with video files you already have. Downloading from YouTube is against YouTube’s terms, so we do not offer it.
